Located at 23 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003, Mountain House East Village operates as a szechuan serving New York in New York. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as chinese restaurant, restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in New York; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in New York are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 11:30 am–11 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (917) 388-3866. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is szechuanmountainhouse.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 2,789 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded szechuan & hunan in New York.
New York is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in New York peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Heard a lot of good things about the restaurant and decided to give it a try. We ordered dumplings in chili oil, yibin style ran noodles, la-zi chicken, ma-ma hot fish(black fish), and Szechuan double cooked pork. All the dishes were very flavorful, but not over powering. Every dish had its signature flavor. The dumplings were plump and more fragrant than spicy. The noodles were savory. The chicken was spicy. The fish was numbing and citrusy from the pepper corns. The pork was very flavorful. All the dishes were excellent. They also have a very extensive menu including rabbit and frog. The servers were quite friendly, but clumsy. In the 75 minutes we were there, they dropped and broke glasses and bowls like 3 times and accidentally spilled beverages on a customer. The tables were too close together and crammed. It was also quite loud in there and hard to talk with my friend. The food was excellent though.

I’ve been to quite a few Sichuan spots around NYC, and Szechuan Mountain House is definitely one of the best. The Mapo Tofu had just the right amount of spice and that signature numbing flavor, and the Swing Pork Belly was both fun to eat and incredibly delicious. The stir-fried beef was super tender, and even the fried rice stood out it wasn’t just an afterthought. Huge shoutout to Vinny and Frankie for taking such great care of us. They gave us solid recommendations based on what we liked, explained the dishes without making it feel like a sales pitch, and checked in throughout the meal to make sure everything was good. The food was amazing, but the service made the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be back.

Everything was perfect. The music and the decor gives such a calming mountainside feel. We were greeted with complimentary delicious tea and a spicy cabbage appetizer. Our host, Cynthia, was the absolute best!! Super welcoming and hospitable. She gave recommendations, helped us choose a dish, came back many times to check on us and was super friendly. THANK YOU CYNTHIA! The food was absolutely divine. The presentation is phenomenal, the taste perfect and complex! No complaints, a must try in NYC and already added to my list of favorite restaurants!:)

Finally got a chance to try this place out & it didn’t disappoint. The free tea they offered was really nice & not bitter. The salted egg corn was a nice surprise & the recs to get the ma po tofu were spot on. Can’t forget the desserts at the end - beautiful & also delicious. Emma gave great suggestions! Would definitely come back

This Szechuanese spot in East Village is a great spot for a casual meal whether its for lunch or dinner 🙂! It is especially good for when you crave spicy spicy food, whether its fresh spicy or numbing spicy, they have whatever u need to satisfy the craving. They have quite a menu of both unique dishes and classic Szechuan dishes. This time I tried their pork belly swing w/ chili garlic sauce and tbh it wasn't bad or as heavy as I thought it would be 😅. The garlic sauce could be a little stronger but overall it was a nice appetizer to start my meal 😋. Other than that, we also got their chicken mushroom dumplings, which was a nice hearty savory appetizer 👌. For the main dishes, we tried their mala prawn, pepper lover chicken, beef slices in a spicy sour soup, beef and porcini mushroom bibimbap & the stir fry Lotus Roots & Celery. I enjoyed all the dishes I tried tbh👍. Every dish had its own uniqueness to it making it overall a nicely flavor-balanced meal (with a bit of everything). The pepper lover chicken specifically is their spiciest dish 🫠, cooked with 50% chopped fresh chili peppers 🫣, so if u love a spicy challenge, then this is for you. Overall, I had a great meal here 🙂. The
